Week 9

This week we’re talking about visualizations, and the Seminole Wars.

Reminder on procedure:

The things in this plan aside from the small projects are all things that you should think about as being “class time” activities. They’re not “assignments” in the sense that I want you to spend a tremendous amount of time on them—they should take less than 75 minutes to do. But I do still want you to do them! I especially want you to talk to your classmates in your Slack group.

Monday: Visualizations

  • Check in on Blackboard between 8am and 8pm.
  • Tech Hack! Watch this video to learn about our Tech Hack for today.
  • Watch this video about data visualization.
  • Listen to our podcast about visualization and answer the questions in your Slack group (transcript here—you’ll likely want to consult this even if you listen, so you can see the visuals).
  • Count the number of visualizations you can find in 3 minutes on your preferred news site. Report your results in the #week9 Slack channel poll.
  • Be sure to discuss the visualization I’ve posted in your Slack group. Feel free to elect a spokesperson to share to the #week9 channel what you’ve discussed.
