Podcasts

I have had a hand in a number of podcast projects over the past few years.

Consolation Prize, from the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University, is a podcast about the history of the United States in the world through the eyes of its consuls. I hosted and produced this podcast. We’ve covered everything from religion to politics to commerce to impressment, and we’ve been all over the world–to every continent except Antarctica (for obvious reasons).

Big If True, a podcast I hosted and produced along with my 10-year-old daughter: a podcast where we explored the truth about big things. We interviewed experts about the big things in the world, every other week. We alternated between human-made big things and natural big things, and every once in a while we threw in some literary and cultural big things as well. Big If True is currently on hiatus, but we hope it will be back!

Preble Hall, a podcast about naval history from the U.S. Naval Academy Museum. I host this podcast along with two other naval historians. My episodes come out roughly once a month. I have interviewed career naval historians such as William Fowler, as well as early-career naval historians and even practitioners.

The Green Tunnel is a podcast about the history of the Appalachian Trail. I executive produced the first season of this show, hosted by Mills Kelly. We explored the origins of the trail, danger on the trail, food, women leaders on the trail, shelters, the Leave No Trace movement, and a lot more.
