We&#8217;ll be thinking about what the war cost, both at the time of the war and afterwards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reminder: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/abbymullen.org\/hist390fall2020\/assessment\/\">Grade contracts<\/a> are due September 7. You can submit them <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdZ3DVv1o2lNSASoWjRrHjbM22Yc6PL7Zw0s9Xj9pI5M7vsfw\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Monday<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Due today<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Sign up for a war that you want to focus your attention on this semester. <\/strong>Sign-up is first-come, first-serve <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1hISAh7StiI5y4pMfv7U6140_F-ias_pNtOBe_MwzTWo\/edit?usp=sharing\">here<\/a>.<\/li><li><strong>Reading<\/strong>: James Ambuske et al., <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanyawp.com\/text\/05-the-american-revolution\/\">\u201cThe American Revolution,\u201d<\/a> Michael Hattem, ed., in&nbsp;<em>The American Yawp<\/em>, eds. Joseph Locke and Ben Wright (Stanford, CA: Stanford University Press, 2018). <strong>(Response options: blog post, Hypothesis, audio)<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To do today: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Thought Provoker to Start: <\/em> <\/strong>Listen to (or watch, if you have Disney+!) <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/3nJYcY9yvKP8Oi2Ml8brXt?si=x_JQNVi5RjC5NZSo46JULg\">&#8220;Right Hand Man&#8221;<\/a> from the musical <em>Hamilton.<\/em> Think about the different characters and how they feel about the war. What are they willing to give up in order to win?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Read a primary source document<\/strong> available at <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/13nmHWvfLJNuxiehn6dn0lNMYj6QIQU_g\/view?usp=sharing\">this Google Doc<\/a>. (5 readers per document, first come, first served; mark in the Google Doc which document you&#8217;ve read).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On your own, <strong>answer these questions<\/strong>. Then <strong>discuss your answers <\/strong>with the other people that read your document, either in Slack or using some other means. (You may need or want to set up a private group DM in Slack to do this.) When you&#8217;ve come to a consensus about the answers, <strong>select one person<\/strong> to fill the answers in on <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeSZRQRy_Lob7oeaXD5tAIl2IWfMCn9ahJrfJ280DgD2KjeaQ\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">this Google Form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Who is writing this document? In terms of the American Revolution, how would you describe them?<\/li><li>Who are they writing to?<\/li><li>Each of these documents discusses one (or more) ways the American Revolution cost someone something.
