Week 9: Visualizations and timelines

This week we’re moving into the fun stuff: building digital things based on all the sources you’ve accrued. This week we’re thinking about how to create visual representations of historical information. Then you’ll be off to make your first creative project!

Visualizations

Listen to our podcast about visualization and answer the poll in the Slack #discussion channel (transcript here—you’ll likely want to consult this even if you listen, so you can see the visuals). We are NOT, I repeat, NOT doing the group discussion of the visualizations that you’ll hear at the end of the episode.

RESPONSE: Find a visualization on your own and post it in the #visualizations channel in Slack. Explain what it is, whether it’s fair, and how you know.

Timelines

Timelines are just a certain kind of visualization. But before we get to thinking about timelines, I’ve written a short-ish blog post for you all to read about time in general. Read carefully; there are places in the blog post where I want you to discuss some things in our #discussion channel over on Slack.

Then you’re going to be building your own timeline for Creative Project 1—you’re finally going to get to use all those sources that you’re accruing!

So start here by reading this.

Then get the instructions for Creative Project 1 here.
